Locaweb Overhauls Data Center Planning to Counter Component Lead Times
The Brazilian hosting provider is re-engineering server configurations with Dell as memory availability and delivery schedules constrain infrastructure expansion.

Brazilian digital services provider Locaweb Serviços de Internet S/A is revamping its data center capacity planning and server deployment strategy in response to component shortages and prolonged equipment delivery schedules.
The operational shift, disclosed in an interview broadcast on SiliconANGLE Media's theCUBE, involves projecting compute requirements earlier and working directly with vendor engineering teams to design around component bottlenecks. Rather than delaying projects when specific parts face backlogs, Locaweb is collaborating with partner Dell Technologies Inc. to identify alternative hardware configurations that maintain performance without compromising customer-facing services.
Locaweb originally operated as an email and web hosting provider for small businesses before diversifying into marketplace platforms, e-commerce, and financial tools. That product expansion expanded its compute and storage footprint, leaving ongoing operations sensitive to global hardware constraints.
Hardware availability—most notably memory modules—along with pricing pressure and supply chain transit times have pushed infrastructure capacity back onto boardroom agendas, according to Locaweb Chief Technology Officer Gustavo Gomes Salviano. Locaweb and Dell have held recurring technical discussions since last year to identify substitute component specifications that can arrive on schedule while satisfying workload demands.
Because Dell engineers understand Locaweb's production environment and application architecture, the two teams can evaluate whether substitute hardware profiles preserve required capacity, Salviano explained. The objective is to navigate delivery delays without stripping functionality from existing products or exposing customers to degraded performance.
The capacity crunch arrives as Locaweb accelerates internal adoption of artificial intelligence tools. The company is currently rolling out systems that let nontechnical personnel build custom operational automations, generating new internal compute workloads that data center architects must factor into capacity forecasting.
Dell Technologies Brazil General Manager Diego Puerta noted during the broadcast that successful enterprise infrastructure scaling requires aligning procurement with organizational goals rather than treating capacity strictly as an isolated IT purchasing problem.
For regional hosting and cloud operators, Locaweb's approach reflects a broader operational reality: hardware lead times are no longer just a supply chain inconvenience, but an active constraint that shapes server architecture and system design.
