Stability AI Secures $76M Series B Backed by Music and Gaming Giants
Universal Music Group, Sony Music, Warner Music, and Electronic Arts participate in the round, pushing total fundraising for the Stable Diffusion maker to $232 million.

Stability AI, the artificial intelligence developer known for creating the Stable Diffusion image generator, has raised $76 million in Series B funding. The new investment brings the startup's total capital raised to $232 million, as first reported by TechCrunch AI.
The company formally announced the transaction on Tuesday, highlighting an investor roster dominated by major entertainment and media conglomerates. Strategic backers in the round include music publishers Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Warner Music Group, along with video game publisher Electronic Arts. Corporate venture arms AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures also participated in the funding.
The composition of the syndicate marks a departure from traditional venture capital sources, reflecting a deeper alignment with corporate entities that Stability AI relies upon for content licensing, distribution, and platform partnerships across the creative sector.
Prem Akkaraju, who assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at Stability AI in 2024, described the capital injection as "an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician, and storyteller."
Proceeds from the Series B will be allocated toward scaling the company's professional services division and furthering development on its "creative production" suite. Established in 2019, Stability AI maintains a portfolio of generative models optimized for image synthesis, video creation, and music generation.
Over the past year, the enterprise has actively focused on integrating its generative systems into corporate production pipelines. Stability AI formed joint development partnerships with Universal Music and Electronic Arts last October, followed by a similar accord with Warner Music in November. Under those agreements, corporate partners collaborate on building and refining Stability AI's underlying models rather than strictly licensing pre-built outputs.
The capital raise arrives while the firm navigates a complex legal environment regarding artificial intelligence training practices. Stability AI secured a favorable outcome in the United Kingdom, where a court ruled substantially in its favor in an intellectual property lawsuit filed by Getty Images concerning the usage of copyrighted photographs in model training datasets. A parallel copyright infringement suit brought by Getty Images in the United States remains active.
The firm also continues to handle internal legal disputes dating back to its founding era. In 2023, former co-founder Cyrus Hodes initiated litigation against co-founder Emad Mostaque, claiming he was misled into selling his equity share in the business prior to its significant rise in market valuation.
