Anthropic Debuts Read-Only Personal Finance Beta for Claude Subscribers

The Plaid-powered feature enables paid U.S. users to analyze bank transactions and spending habits without permitting automated money movement.

Anthropic has launched Personal Finance, a beta feature enabling paid Claude subscribers in the United States to connect bank and credit card accounts directly to the AI assistant.

The feature, first reported by The Next Web (https://thenextweb.com/news/anthropic-claude-personal-finance-plaid-read-only-beta), is rolling out to domestic accounts on Claude's Pro, Max, and Ultra subscription tiers. Connections are brokered through financial data network Plaid, which prevents Anthropic from directly handling or storing users' online banking login credentials.

Access is strictly read-only. While Claude can inspect account balances and analyze up to two years of transaction records, the software cannot initiate transfers, execute payments, manage portfolios, or place investments. Anthropic designed the assistant to handle common consumer finance inquiries: categorizing monthly expenses, highlighting recurring fees, flagging potential duplicate charges, and generating visual charts or custom dashboards from raw transaction logs.

Anthropic established explicit data boundaries and functional limits for the beta. Users may link accounts from up to 16 domestic financial institutions, though visibility into investment, loan, and credit card accounts is restricted exclusively to current balances and credit limits. Anthropic also advises users to independently verify critical figures against bank statements, cautioning that the language model can make calculation or interpretation errors.

On privacy and monetization, Anthropic stated that Personal Finance contains no sponsored recommendations or third-party advertisements, and the company does not sell proprietary loans, lines of credit, or deposit accounts. Interactions involving connected accounts and hub chats are excluded from model-training datasets and will not populate Claude's shared memory. However, data previously displayed within active chats, generated artifacts, or shared links remains stored in the user interface until manually deleted, even if the underlying bank account is later unlinked.

The launch accelerates an industry push among leading foundation model providers to integrate generative AI into personal accounting and administrative software. Rival OpenAI rolled out bank account connections via Plaid in May, initially limiting access to its $200-a-month Pro plan, though OpenAI has subsequently started serving advertisements inside ChatGPT. Anthropic, which previously integrated small-business accounts via Xero and built dedicated tooling for registered financial advisers, described the consumer release as an opening step toward broader regulated financial workflows.
