Apple appears to be preparing a visual refresh for Apple Music, replacing the service's signature red app icon with a black-and-white design in the latest iOS 27.2 beta, according to reporting from 9to5Mac and The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/tech/1010619/apple-music-new-icon-ios-27-beta).

The updated icon features subtle geometric tweaks in addition to the drained color palette. The eighth note in the center has a slightly sharper angle than the previous version. The change aligns with a new Apple Music logo spotted last month on the Apple Music Hall website, pointing to a broader branding adjustment.

Under the beta build, the icon dynamically adapts to system display settings: light mode renders a black note on a white background, while dark mode inverts the palette to a white note on a black background.

The visual changes also extend into the system interface and application navigation. The iOS 27.2 beta sets Apple Music widgets to black backgrounds and adds a blue accent in the app's bottom tab bar to highlight the active tab.

Screenshots shared by a user on X show the icon across standard light, dark, and tinted home screen modes. If Apple retains the monochrome design in the final public release of iOS 27.2, users will still have the option to use iOS home screen tinting to approximate the classic red look.
